Iran Ceasefire Set to Expire Sunday, Israeli Media Says

(MENAFN) The clock is running out on the Iran ceasefire, with Washington privately informing Tel Aviv that the truce window closes this Sunday, according to Israeli media.

An Israeli public broadcaster reported Wednesday that American officials communicated to Israel that President Donald Trump's deadline for Tehran would lapse within days. Citing an unnamed diplomatic source, the broadcaster said Trump is pushing for concrete understandings with Iran — not prolonged, open-ended talks.

Israeli officials voiced skepticism that any breakthrough was achievable before Sunday. More strikingly, they described a growing sense of disorientation in dealings with Washington, saying they had recently been learning about Trump's strategic moves secondhand — through press reports and the president's own social media posts — rather than through direct diplomatic channels.

A White House official told media earlier Wednesday that the ceasefire could hold between three and five days, while an Israeli source characterized the situation as fluid and heavily contingent on Trump's unilateral decisions.

Trump announced the ceasefire extension on Tuesday following an appeal from Pakistan, conditioning its continuation on Tehran delivering what he called a "unified proposal."

The broader regional crisis traces back to February 28, when the US and Israel conducted joint strikes against Iran. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and nations hosting US military assets. Pakistan brokered the initial ceasefire on April 8 and hosted peace talks between Washington and Tehran on April 11–12. A second round of negotiations remains in progress, though the path forward is deeply uncertain.
